B. Tech Degree in Extraction Metallurgy

In his current capacity, Jack is responsible for mining; logistics; processing; SHERQ; production and resource planning; and infrastructure management and maintenance. Jack has over 25 years’ experience in the refreshment, pharmaceutical and mining sectors, spanning various roles. Prior to joining Lurco, he worked for South32 as a production manager, and as a production superintendent at both Siyanda Resources and Glencore. Jack also fulfilled a number of positions at BHP Billiton, starting out in the pharmaceutical industry as a lab assistant.

Khanyi Zungu Executive Head: Legal

LLB

Khanyi is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa, specialising in various aspects of corporate and commercial law with a specific focus on mergers and acquisitions, deal structuring, project finance and governance. 

She is currently one of the youngest legal mining executives in the country, working and having worked on a number of ground-breaking transactions with a particular interest in mining, energy, construction and engineering; at both a commercial and litigation level.

Khanyi has, during her tenure in practice and now in corporate, worked with a wide spectrum of companies ranging from mining and energy generation to retail & healthcare industries. In addition, she runs a number of outreach programmes across the country, assisting communities in need. Khanyi is also the founder and Chairperson of Luke 6:38 Foundation, a non-profit organisation that focuses on poverty alleviation, education reinforcement and sanitary health.

Lee Stokes Executive Head: Capital Raising and Business Development

Diploma in International Marketing

Lee is currently Executive Head of Capital Raising and Business Development at Lurco, responsible for establishing a stable of pan-African resource funds to leverage Lurco’s expanding project and opportunity pipeline. Prior to joining Lurco, Lee lead a broad team advising Standard Bank Corporate and Investment Banking, Africa’s largest bank in assets, on the articulation of the banks’ capital market capabilities. Lee was also central to conceiving and implementing key corporate and project finance, and equity and debt capital markets positioning strategies, in support of various client’s across mining and metals, oil and gas, and power and infrastructure practices. Furthermore, Lee has 12 years’ experience in investor relations and corporate communications across a range of industries and sectors, having worked with clients such as ABSA, BHP Billiton (now South32), the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), DuPont and Liberty.

Thandukwazi Buthelezi Executive Head: Commercial

LLB

Thandukwazi, an admitted attorney by profession, currently heads the commercial department of the Lurco Group and ensures the efficient commodities trading element of the business, and also ensures proper and diligent execution of agreements and projects.

Thandukwazi previously worked briefly as a legal and regulatory affairs consultant at the MTN Group.

Before this, he fulfilled the roles of commercial associate and litigation candidate attorney at Werksmans Attorneys. His areas of expertise included commercial drafting and advice; telecoms law; antitrust and competition law; mining and petroleum law; data privacy law; labour law; constitutional and administrative law; and general and commercial litigation.

Thandukwazi is also the co-founder of Essex Sundays, a networking event for young professionals and emerging entrepreneurs and is a member of the BMF Young Professionals, the Black Lawyers Association (BLA) and the Association for Competition Law Practitioners (ACLP).

Vuledzani Msimanga Executive Head: HR

Vuledzani holds over 22 years of experience in the Mining industry and is currently Executive Head of HR at Lurco Group. She kick-started her career as a graduate trainee and has since grown and developed professionally across the following areas of her work; HR Assistant, HR Officer, HR Generalist, HR Manager, and lastly Senior and Group Manager (Board and Exco Member).

Furthermore, Vuledzani’s experience includes servicing mine owners and contract mining companies in South Africa and in different regions across the African continent.

In her senior roles, Vuledzani has become well-developed in various HR pillars such as HR Regulatory Compliance (EE, Mining Charter, Skills Development, BBBE) Strategy Development and Implementation, Business Partnerships, Performance Management and Succession Planning, Community Development and Stakeholder Engagement, HR Systems Implementation, Training and Development, HR Risk Management, Industrial Relations, Talent Acquisition and Resourcing, HR Budget Control, Employee Wellness and Transformation and Change Management.

Vuledzani has also been part of several influential change initiatives in the mining sector, she has held the position of chairperson of Women in Mining and she has also serviced the Future Forum Committee as well as the Transformation Committee.
